How Are Business And Insurance Related?
One of the interesting theories is that if there was no business then insurance for businesses would not have been created. Similarly, a business would never be safe without the different types of insurance policies created to protect various aspects of a business. Whether you have a retail store or an advertising agency; you need protection from several factors like nature (fire, storm, hail), political or economical (recession, riots), and physical (damages caused by vehicles, theft etc).
So if your product has been damaged by fire then would you be responsible for the losses? Most definitely not because that’s what insurance policies are for – offering you the exact value of the product stolen or damaged. But that’s not the only aspect of a business that an insurance policy will protect. When we say business and insurance are related; it also means that insurance protects all aspects of a business.
Let’s take an example. If a top employee of your company or business meets with an accident caused by a faulty machine then who will spend the money for the employee’s hospital expenses? The business of course but it will not pinch you if there is liability insurance in the name of the business. Having a liability or worker’s compensation policy can provide a lot of benefits especially in type of a situation where your employee is injured within the premises of the company or while on job.
Similarly, if a consumer falls sick or had food poisoning after consuming your product or if a consumer is injured by your product then who will be held responsible? The consumer can even file a lawsuit against the business and drag you to court. In such a scenario, an umbrella liability business insurance policy will provide protection from consumer lawsuits while a product liability policy will take care of any medical expenses that the business incurs on behalf of the injured consumer.
As we all know, competition is getting tougher by the day and competitors often use the wrong ways to put a business down. They can try and defame you or legally challenge you in the court for misleading advertising. Again, liability business insurance will come in quite handy to provide you with the necessary cover against competitors and you can run your business in peace.
There is another aspect of business that many people overlook, which is transportation. Transportation is another point where business and insurance are related. Wondering how? If you have a business where you need to transport raw materials or finished goods to and from the factory; if you are a florist and transport flowers; if you have a courier company and have vehicles transporting gifts then even the smallest damage to your vehicle and lead to business interruption. In such a scenario, a business vehicle insurance will offer protection.
The best thing about business insurance is that businesses can’t do without it!
